COMMISSION ON NOMENCLATURE OF INORGANIC CHEMISTRY
(II.2)
Number: 220/31/98
Title: Priority Claims Elements 110-112
Coordinator(s): Paul
J. Karol - Access to
list of members
Remarks: Joint IUPAP/IUPAC Working Party
Completion Date: 2001 - project completed
Objective: The IUPAC/IUPAP Joint Working Party is charged
with examining the priority claims for elements 110, 111 and 112 ultimately
leading to a Report of recommendations suitable for publication.
Progress: Documentation submitted via Professor Leigh has
been thoroughly studied by the Working Party. Contact among the Working
Party members has been mostly by electronic mail, although Nakahara
and Karol were able to arrange to meet for several hours in Pittsburgh
for a worthwhile debate. The recommendations are being drafted by
the Chair for distribution among and input revisions from the members.
These recommendations are governed by the previous criteria established
and by application of discovery profile formats used by the 101-109
Transfermium Working Group to 110-112. Only very limited input
from the Russian laboratory at Dubna has been secured.
In August 2000, a report to the Commission II.2 indicated that in
accordance with the criteria
for the discovery of elements, previously established (Pure Appl.
Chem. 63(6), pp. 879-886, 1991), the WP was able to attribute
the discovery of element 110 to the GSI at Darmstadt. Conclusive discovery
of elements 111 and 112 had not yet been established by the WP. >
