Physical
and Engineering Science in Health Care
With
the support of the International Council for Science (ICSU),
the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences
in Medicine has produced a 10-page brochure entitled Physical
and Engineering Science in Health Care. The brochure describes,
in readily understandable language, the essential role that
medical physicists and biomedical engineers play in delivering
modern, effective health care. As the brochure details, these
dedicated health professionals work-in fields such as medical
imaging, physiological measurement, or radiation protectionat
hospitals, research laboratories, industrial concerns, academic
institutions, and governmental organizations. This brochure
is a contribution toward the public understanding of science
as it relates to healthcare and also toward sustainable development
because it can help encourage departments of health to appoint
sufficient qualified and trained professionals in these fields.
